Description:
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for assisting the CFO in identifying and delivering a broad range of services to the family office. The candidate will also assist in coordinating services with the family office’ outside advisors and service providers. The Assistant Controller will have responsibility for overseeing the financial department and helping to develop and maintain the operations and internal controls of the family office structure.
Duties:
• Maintain books and records for the family office and various entities including the foundation and partnerships
• Review and reconcile investments on monthly/quarterly basis to statements and evaluate performance
• Track investment activity for hedge and private equity investments including capital calls, distributions and remaining capital commitments
• Preparing monthly cash flows, including estimating sources and uses, as well as other performance reports
• Prepare allocation schedules for capital calls and distributions
• Ensure that capital calls, distributions and cash movements are sent / received
• Assist with cash management
• Prepare/review monthly cash reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies
• Assist in the completion of subscription documents for new investments and account documents for new brokerage accounts
• Assist the President in identifying and implementing tax planning opportunities in the areas of income, estate, and gift tax
• Coordinate services with outside advisors and service providers (lawyers, accountants, insurance brokers, bankers, investment advisors)
• Review and produce written summaries of various legal documents including estate planning documents, LLC agreements, service provider contracts
• Assist in developing relevant reports including estimated income, balance sheet, statement of position for investments, and valuation reports
• Interface with clients and the family as necessary, providing them with a high level of service
• Assist in developing and maintaining a system of internal controls
• Help develop standard operating procedures, and implement best practices
Education/Experience/Skills:
• Experience at a hedge fund, private equity firm or similar environment such as a family office. CPA designation strongly preferred
• General accounting knowledge including partnership / fund accounting, capital account maintenance, general ledger, and cash accounting
• Some tax knowledge helpful.
